The commonwealth of Nations is an organization of 53 independent countries and most of them are former British Colonies. It was formed in 1931 with the initial members of United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Irish Free State and Dominion of Newfoundland. Member countries of the organization are bound to co-operate within a framework of common values and goals, as outlined in the Singapore Declaration.
